Love That Covers Our Failures — 1 Peter 4:8 | Good News for Today

What holds a community together when people disappoint and hurt one another? Peter points us beyond resentment to a deep, persistent love—one that reflects Jesus and refuses to let sin have the final word.
1 Peter 5:8
[8] Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. (ESV)
There are two ways we can incorrectly think about the devil.
One is to give him too much time and be so afraid of him that we forget that Jesus has already defeated him at the cross, and on the last day, we will see his victory once and for all.
But the other way we incorrectly think about the devil, I think, 1 Peter 5 helps us address. That is, we can live as if he doesn’t exist. And this verse helps us to know, yes, he’s real. He’s still at work. He has dirty tactics.
And so keep your eyes open. Be alert. Not to the point of despair, but to the point of resisting, strengthened by the Spirit of God as we keep trusting in Jesus.
Keep trusting Jesus today.
