Sheep, People and Sheelple

People and Sheeple: Are they Different?

I’ve been hearing a lot about sheep lately; not the fluffy kind with four legs, but about people and sheeple. Some call people who follow others “sheeple,” which is a combination of “sheep” and “people.” Apparently, it’s a bad thing to be a “sheeple,” and the people who call other people this claim not be sheep at all, because they don’t follow anyone. They simply think for themselves and forge their own path.

This all got me thinking, because this just isn’t right, at so many levels. We need to rethink this whole “sheep” thing. So, I just want to give you three reasons why this kind of thinking is way off the mark.

1. We are all Sheep

Yes, it’s true! We’re all sheep. There’s no such thing as people who are sheep on the one hand; and then on the other hand, people who are all independent non-sheep! The Bible says,

Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture (Ps. 100:3.)

The fascinating thing here is that it tells us that “each of us has turned to our own way”. In other words, we all think that we’re all independent, and we aren’t following anyone. But no, we’re still all just sheep.

Also, the Bible doesn’t say that we are all good sheep. In fact, it says that we are all sheep who have gotten ourselves lost. We’re all wayward sheeple, even the ones who think they’re so smart that they aren’t sheeple themselves:

We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
    each of us has turned to our own way;
and the Lord has laid on him
    the iniquity of us all
 (Isa. 53:6.)

People and sheeple are not two different things. Because we are both people and sheep, we are all sheeple!

2. It’s Not a Bad Thing to be Sheep

So, once you’ve taken a deep breath and accepted that you are a sheep, it’s time to take the next step in self-discovery. And that’s that it isn’t a bad thing to be a sheep; not at all! In fact, it can be a very good thing. The psalmist David, who knew a thing or two about sheep, wrote,

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters…

It’s an amazing thing to be a sheep when the Lord is your shepherd! The psalm concludes with these words:

Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
    forever
(Ps. 23:1-6.)

Who would ever want to be anything other than a sheep? God loves people and sheeple, because they are the same thing!

3. God Loves Sheep

But it gets even better when we realise just how much God loves sheep! Look at what Jesus said about his relationship with his sheep:

The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep… the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. 11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep (John 10:2,4,11.)

All people are sheeple, and all are loved by God.

Did you notice that? Jesus “lays down his life for the sheep”. He is the “great Shepherd of the sheep” (Heb. 13:20) who did not allow us to be wander around lost and be eaten by predators. Instead, he came down to this world and found us, living among us, and defeated our greatest enemy, death itself. Jesus did this by giving up his own life so that we might live.

There’s no better news for wayward and lost sheep than that!

So, next time you are tempted to call someone a sheep, or you are called a sheep yourself, think about these things. If you have Jesus as your shepherd, you can wear it as a badge of honour.

Really great to be a sheep with Our great Shepherd Jesus looking after us, absolutely beautiful, so safe and so loved.

Thank you Dondi. Yes, I do underhand how the term is used in a divisive and pejorative sense. Christ's agenda is to bring unity and build up. The purpose of the article is to emphasise that God loves all of us.

Mr. Gonzalez, You don't quite understand yhe term Sheeple in this country. It has nothing to do with following Jesus which I agree is the right thing to do. Sheeple refers to people who follow and believe what the liberal main stream media tells them. They are being brainwashed and don't even realize it.
