The Courageous Optimist

You know those people who are fake-happy? They’re almost as annoying as the people who are all negative and drag you down all the time.

So what sort of people should followers of Jesus be?

Christians are optimists by profession. But they are also realists. You might call them “realistic optimists.”

Jesus described it when he said,

In this world you will have trouble.

That’s the realistic part.

And then he says,

But take heart! I have overcome the world.

That’s the optimistic part.

Christians don’t go around with a fake smile, pretending everything is fine when it isn’t. Neither are they doom and gloom types.

They’re realists with a solid reason for hope and joy, no matter where the winds of life may blow. If you need some of that joy in your life today, don’t focus on the trouble in this world. Focus instead on the reality that Jesus has overcome the world on your behalf.
