Unlimited: A Very Bad Deal

They exchanged the truth about God for a lie… (Romans 1:25a)
I’ve done some very bad business or investment deals in my life, and I’m sure that you have too. But there could hardly be a worse deal than exchanging the truth for a lie. And when it is the truth about God that we are talking about, it’s even worse!
We live in a world where believing lies is more comfortable than believing the truth. That applies to every aspect of our society. Sadly it applies even down to our relationships, and what we believe about ourselves. The human heart is selfish by nature. It will tend to always believe what pleases it, rather than what is true.
Exchanging truth for a lie is a very bad deal!
That is why as a society we have exchanged a Creator God for random chance, as the basis of our origins. We have exchanged the sovereignty of God for humanity as the makers of our own destiny. We have exchanged our Saviour Jesus with ourselves as our own saviours.
We lie when we say that God is distant, uncaring and unloving, that he has out to get us and to condemn us, and that he accepts us on the basis of our performance. Perhaps the worse lie of all that our society has accepted is that God doesn’t even exist, but that humanity itself is the somehow the centre of existence.
Spiritual Application
Think carefully. What lies have you believed about God in the past? How can you reclaim the truth about his character?
