The Gospel That Saves is Simple

By this gospel you are saved… For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:2–4).

When I visit the supermarket, I try to buy food with fewer additives. You know: all those numbers on the ingredients list! The more additives I see on the list, the more it makes me think that there’s something wrong with that product.

The Gospel That Saves is Simple: Believe It!

It’s the same with Jesus message, the Gospel that saves is simple. It was simple to begin with. Jesus rose to life from the grave, and then he told his followers to share the good news with everyone: that he had died for the forgiveness of the sins of the world so that all who believed in him would live forever. And His resurrection was the clincher – the proof!

The Gospel means “Good News,” and the Good News of the crucified and risen Saviour is still as simple and as powerful as ever.

The Gospel isn’t at its heart a social agenda, a community, or some good advice for living. All of those things are some of the results of the Gospel, but none of them can save you. They aren’t the Good News. In case you missed it, here it is:

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal lifeJohn 3:16

Now that’s Good News!

Eli’s Reflection: Here is a way to both celebrate and share the Good News. Write out John 3:16 on separate pieces of decorated note paper. Now buy some helium balloons, and send them up with your messages attached. Who knows where they will land?

Help Spread the Good News
