You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you (Romans 8:9a).
The apostle Paul has just explained to us what it means to be in the realm of the flesh. Yet those who belong to Christ are not in the realm of the flesh, but in the realm of the Spirit. Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God. We can only please God when we are in the realm of the Spirit.
There are two realms: the realm of the flesh, and the realm of the Spirit. The world “realm” is just another word for “kingdom.” There are therefore two kingdoms: the kingdom of this world and the kingdom of God.
Are you in the realm of the flesh or the realm of the Spirit?
Jesus illustrated the issues at stake in the third of the temptations that he faced in the wilderness. Matthew 4:8–11 tells us that the devil took Jesus to the top of a high mountain, and offered him the kingdom of this world if Jesus would bow down and worship him, but Jesus chose to worship God alone. Then the devil left him, and angels attended him.
Like Jesus, we can either seek the kingdom of this world or be content to serve and worship the Lord God alone. When we choose to serve God, then we will enter into the blessings of the realm of the Spirit, and angels will attend us.
Spiritual Application
Apply this to yourself. Are you in the realm of the flesh or the realm of the Spirit? Does the Spirit of God live in you?
