Unlimited: The Way of Peace

…and the way of peace they do not know (Romans 3:17)
Paul is quoting from Isa. 58:8:
The way of peace they do not know;
there is no justice in their paths.
They have turned them into crooked roads…
Apart from Christ, humanity cannot know the way of peace. All it can know is the way of conflict and strife – paths that are crooked and unjust.
What is the way of peace? In John 14:5, the apostle Thomas asks the Lord,
Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?
Jesus answered in verse 6:
I am the way…
Christ is the way of peace.
He tells the disciples a little later in the same talk,
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives (v.27a).
Christ is the way of peace. When we know the way of peace we will live without fear, as Jesus continues,
Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid (v.27b).
Everywhere that we turn in this world, there is fear, injustice and crookedness. We desperately need to know Jesus as the way of peace for our world, our homes, and our hearts.
In his letter to the church in Rome, Paul is going to carefully explain that the way of peace is only found through the justifying grace of Christ.
Go for a walk in a beautiful place. Reflect on those things in your life that work against your peace. How can you walk in the way of peace more fully?
