Verse of the Day Galatians 2 20 with Dave Miers

Galatians 2:20

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. (ESV)

What an incredible verse that really unpacks and shows something of what it means to belong to Jesus. It’s a picture of the Christian life.

It was Dietrich Bonhoeffer in the 20th century who said “When Christ calls a man, he bids him come and die.”

The call to follow Jesus is a call to die. It’s a call to die to yourself.

And our union with Christ means that when he died, we died with him. Our old life is gone. It has been nailed to the cross. He who has already lived for us has gone to that cross, died our death, been raised again, giving us life beyond the grave.

But I love that picture of “we no longer live for ourselves”. We’ve been crucified with Christ and Christ now lives in and through us, changing how we live. And the whole Christian life now in the flesh, in the body, is by faith. It’s by trusting in Jesus.

And I just love that little reminder in the final phrase. Jesus, the Son of God, is the one who loved me and gave himself for me.

If you know the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, and if you put your trust in Jesus, it will change your life. Give yourself to Jesus, to being crucified to the old life and living the new life with Christ in you. God bless.
