When Will God Bless Me?

When Will God Bless Me?

Have you been waiting for God to bless you? There’s a beautiful lesson hidden in the story of when Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. I’m sure that you remember the story. Jesus had been delayed in responding to Martha and Mary’s message that their brother was sick, and he had succumbed to the illness.

Now, after Lazarus had been dead for four days, Jesus finally arrives. I love the conversation that he has with Martha before he goes to the tomb. I’m going to paraphrase it here.

Martha, in her sadness, says to Jesus,

“Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.”

Jesus responds,

“Your brother will live again!”

Martha knows all about that. She knows about the resurrection at the end of the world. But what she wanted was to have her brother with her now. At this moment, she doesn’t need Jesus to give her a lesson about the second coming, so she says,

“I know all about the resurrection of the dead on the last day. I know he’ll be raised then.”

But she has misunderstood the Lord, because when he had told her that Lazarus would live again, he meant right now. So, Jesus says to her,

“Martha, I am the resurrection and the life. Everyone who believes in me will live, even if they die; and whoever believes in me will never die. Do you believe what I am saying to you?”

And Martha replied,

“Yes, Lord! I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God. You are the one that we have been waiting for!”

And Jesus went and called Lazarus from the dead, and he came out of the tomb alive.

When you believe in Jesus, the blessings come sooner than you think.

Here is the lesson of this story, and it is an important one. When you believe in Jesus, the blessings come sooner than you think.

Martha thought that her blessing would come at the end of the world. But Jesus was right there, and the blessing was just around the corner. It was a blessing that Martha never expected, and it was even better than what she ever could have hoped for.

It’s the same with the blessings that Christ has for you today. They may not come in the way that you have prayed for, or in the way that you might expect. Christ’s blessings are always better than we could have ever have dreamt, and they always come sooner than we expect.

If you believe in Jesus, be on the lookout for that unexpected blessing, not later, but right now.

Martha believed. Do you believe? Because if you don’t, you might miss it!

Thank you for your deeply insightful comment, David. The thought that being saved is about "getting things" should never even cross A Christian's mind. – Eliezer

Salvation is not about getting things. The Bible says in Matthew 6:33 KJV "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Our goal is to be of the heart and mind of Jesus, not to get things. As we seek and adapt ourselves God supplies all of our needs. Psalms 37:4 KJV "Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart." If we are born again, as Jesus said in John 3:3, the desires of our heart will be different from what they were, before we accepted Jesus. Being born again, our desires are to be pleasing in the sight of our Father and Jesus Christ. Our desires are to be conformed in the image of Jesus and being transformed by the renewing of our minds, changing our desires from carnal desires to spiritual desires, Godly desires. Our old man is dead in Christ, as are the old desires. Let the old man remain dead and live in Christ Jesus. John 17:3 KJV "And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent." Learn of Him and Live in Him.
