Are you brokenhearted? Does it feel like no one cares? I’ve got good news for you.

Good News for Today

Psalm 34:18

[18] The LORD is near to the brokenhearted

and saves the crushed in spirit. (ESV)

The LORD Is Near the brokenhearted

Brokenhearted? Yep, I know that feeling.

Crushed in spirit? Yep, I know that one too.

When your heart is broken, it’s easy to feel alone and forgotten.

When your spirit is crushed, it’s hard to see things clearly.

What’s the promise of Psalm 34? It’s two things:

1/ The LORD is near

2/ The LORD saves

Right now, if you are in the middle of heartbreak and a crushed spirit, it may not feel like the LORD is near. Likewise, you might wonder how the LORD can rescue you.

But know that he is near. And know that he saves.

The final verse of this psalm concludes with these words, “None of those who take refuge in him will be condemned.”

So find your refuge in him. Bring your heart. Bring your spirit. Bring your pain.

The Good News is…

You are not forgotten. The LORD really is near, and he is ready and willing to save the brokenhearted who take refuge in him.

Dane Ortlund, in his devotion on Psalm 34, said this,

“For God has demonstrated that he is not a stoic God, a distant God removed from our frailties and distresses. In Jesus, God drew near. He entered into our broken-heartedness. The Lord Jesus knows what it is to be crushed in spirit. He endured everything we do, with the sole exception of sin… Enjoy life in Christ. Walk with him. Look to him.” (pp94-95 ‘In The Lord I Take Refuge’ Crossway, 2021).

Like and share so others can see Jesus clearly.
