Unlimited: The Power of God
Apr 12, 2022 1463
The gospel… is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile (Romans 1:16b).
Paul tells us that the “gospel… is the power of God”. The Gospel isn’t our power; it’s God’s power. The Gospel isn’t about my power to accomplish anything; the Gospel is God’s power to accomplish everything.
We know that God is all-powerful. That in itself isn’t the Gospel. If we are doomed to be lost, it’s not good news to simply know that God has power. The Gospel is how God uses his power for a very specific purpose. Paul says that the Gospel “is the power of God that brings salvation”.
The Gospel is the power of God.
Notice that you don’t become good enough or reach high enough to find salvation. It is brought to you by God’s power. It’s like Jesus’ parable of the lost sheep. The shepherd went to and found the lost sheep. He rescued it. The sheep did not rescue itself or do anything to help itself be better rescued.
The Gospel tells us that salvation is for “everyone.” If salvation wasn’t for everyone, it would be Good News only for some and very bad news for the rest. To accept that salvation, you must believe. Believe and you will be saved.
Spiritual Application
There are many Christians who want the power of God for healing and relationships and all kinds of material gain, but who don’t give priority to the power of God as revealed through the Gospel. Examine yourself, where is your focus?
