Beyond the Rules
There’s some people who reckon religion’s all about the rules. If you follow the rules, you’re right, but if you don’t, you’re not… you don’t belong.
There was a man who came to Jesus once, and asked him,
“What must I do to have eternal life?”
And Jesus’ answer surprised him. He told him to sell everything he had, give it to the poor, and come and follow him.
Now that wasn’t in any of the rules!
What Jesus was telling him was that, sure rules can be good. But true religion, in spite of what you may have heard, isn’t about following rules.
Instead, true Christianity is something that goes way beyond the rules. It’s a surrender of your whole life to Jesus Christ. And he’s not interested so much in what you’ve done. He’s interested in your heart.
Because when Jesus has your heart, he always takes you way beyond the rules.
True Christianity is a surrender of your whole life to Jesus Christ.
